Story script - wants to impress

This sort of reminds me from an old LICT script I used. Add any additional language you would like. Perhaps, throw in some transition words, or embellish the details to give more language in other ways.
  • Wants to impress
  • Buys a — for him/her
  • Gives it to him/her
My general idea for the story might be:

  • Part 1:
    • [Character] wants to impress ___.
    • [During time 1], S/he buys a __ for __.
    • S/he buys a __ for __ to impress __.
    • S/he goes to visit __.
    • S/he tells __, “Hello. I bought a __ for you. Are you impressed?”
    •  __ is not impressed.
  • Part 2:
    • [Character] is sad because __ is not impressed with __.
    • So, [character] goes and buys a __ for __.
    • [During time 2], S/he buys a __ for __ to impress __.
    • S/he goes to visit __ again.
    • S/he tells __, “Hello. I bought a __ for you but you weren’t impressed. This time, I bought a __ for you. Are you impressed?”
    • __ is not impressed.
  • Part 3:
    • [Character] is sad because __ is not impressed with __.
    • So, [character] goes and buys a __ for __.
    • [During time 3], S/he buys a __ for __ to impress __.
    • S/he goes to visit __ again.
    • S/he tells __, “Hello. First, I bought a __ for you but you weren’t impressed. Second, I bought a __ for you but you weren’t impressed. This time, I bought a __ for you. Are you impressed?”
    • __ is impressed.
    • (and character’s reaction to the gift. Class can decide if s/he gives a hug or a kiss or destroys it or throws it in the pool, etc.)

Additional ideas to add variety:
  • add more dialogue
    • Why isn't [character 2] impressed. What does [character 2] tell [character 1]? Does [character 2] keep a straight face and not respond at all? Does [character 2] simply look at a phone or a hand?
    • What does [character 1] say when [character 2] isn't impressed?
    • Do friends give [character 1] suggestions because [character 1] doesn't know what to buy?
  • add character reactions
    • How does [character] react when [character 2] isn't impressed?
    • Does [character 2] throw the gift on the ground or eat it or give it to a dog?
    • What does [character 1] do when [character 2] says that [character 2] is not impressed?
  • Add words like before / after (before going to the store...
  • Add more language in an embedded reading after the story has been told
  • Do an embedded reading where [character 2] doesn't have anything for [character 1] now and so [character 2] has to buy something for [character 1]
  • Perhaps after flopping, [character] wants to impress 3 different people and goes to each one until the third time is a charm.
  • For upper levels, add subjunctive (examples of subjunctive in Spanish).
    • What does she want him to buy for her?
    • Why doesn't she like that he gives her __?
    • Is it normal that she isn't impressed by ___.
  • For upper levels, add to class discussion:
    • What would you buy her?
    • What store would you go to for that?
    • How much would you pay for it there?
Anyways, happy storytelling!
