TPRS year 4 - Spanish 2 story + Indirect Objects

So if you're teaching in a Department, you might find that you need to throw in those Indirect Object pronouns as soon as possible to get your kids hearing them as much as possible in context so by the time your department "covers" them, your kids are more comfortable with them and can use them without realizing them.

The following is a story idea I had after seeing a video.  I think it would work well in Spanish 1 or Spanish 2.

Now, it's by no means an authentic text, but it's silly.

I was thinking for the structures you could highlight would be:

  • le enseña (s/he shows him/her ___)
  • le da (s/he gives ____ to him/her)
  • le dice, "Mi ____ es mejor que tu ____." (s/he says to him/her, "My ___ is better than your ___."
I don't know about the last part as much.  But if you're playing around with the students for those structures, I think it could be kind of fun.

For extension activities if you have to "cover" grammar, I will need to introduce the other indirect object pronouns: "me, te, le, nos, les".  So I might have a simple reading based off of this video that we would go over after watching the video and discussing in Spanish multiple times.  Of course we also will have had our spoken story.  The goal will be to help "le" slowly get engrained into their brains.

Then for the reading, similar to their story with added details, I think we could get with partners and circle the verbs and underline the indirect objects (le) and then go through the reading and try to change the reading to a different person.

I haven't tried this, but for my kids who supposedly worked on conjugation all last year, it might help them to buy in to my class to see that we are going over the different forms.

I dunno.  We'll see!  Or I could just do a few different versions of the reading with the different perspectives and they could guess afterwards whose perspective was the reading in.
